SX-VRU Tool
The Vortex vapor recovery unit (SX-VRU) tool allows the operator to cost-effectively replace vapor recovery units with an environmentally responsible, safe tool. Vortex offers this solution at a fraction of the cost of the complex piping and labor involved with vapor recovery units, and allows the operator to remain in compliance with today's emissions standards in managing volatile organic compounds (VOCs). In addition to allowing the operator to avoid expensive fines and potential litigation, the SX-VRU tool increases the volume and value of the oil and condensate produced with gas by spinning the vapors back into the oil and/or condensates. A large, East Texas independent (in conjunction with a leading flowback and well testing company) placed a Vortex SX-VRU tool between the high-pressure separator and the low-pressure separator so that the high-pressure separator's flash gas vapors were spun back into liquids. The low-pressure separator's flash gas went to compression to the high-pressure separator and then on to the sales line. By spinning the vapors (containing hydrocarbon vapors) back into the oil, the value of the oil and condensates were increased with minimal impact to the API gravity. According to the customer, even with 103-degree ambient daytime temperatures, the vapors off the production tanks were negligible. With the Vortex solution, you can put a Vortex tool on the oil dump side of the high-pressure separator (two-phase separator: gas and oil/water) before the low-pressure separator or heater treater (three-phase separator: gas, oil and water). The Vortex flow is an efficient and competitively priced separator of oil, water and gas. The stable organized flow creates less turbulence, a better transformation of vapors to fluids and consequentially, additional liquid volume, resulting in additional value. The Vortex tool significantly reduces vapor emissions (by spinning them into stable liquids), so there is minimal gas going to flare, and what little gas does go to flare is essentially liquids free.
